VANNIX C4 – Phytogenics and Probiotics to Knock Out Poultry Gut Health Challenges

VANNIX C4 is a proprietary blend of tannic acid extract, phytogenic molecules, beta glucans and a probiotic (Bacillus subtilis  PB6) used to minimize the impact of enteric challenges on poultry performance.

With more than 50% of commercial poultry raised without antibiotics today, producers need novel solutions that fit in their management systems to help support poultry health and performance. As a phytogenic additive, VANNIX C4 serves as a natural, cost-effective antibiotic alternative to help reduce the impact of pathogens – like Eimeria  and Clostridium perfringens – on poultry intestinal integrity, thereby allowing poultry to achieve their full performance potential. Research has shown that VANNIX C4 can be used not only in conventional programs, but also in combination with coccidiosis vaccination programs to help poultry maintain performance without impacting immunity development.1,2

Features and Benefits

  • Beta glucans to prime the immune system to respond to pathogen challenges
  • Phytogenic molecules from oregano and yucca for antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities
  • Bacillus subtilis PB6 – a natural probiotic for maintenance of a healthy and balanced intestinal microflora
  • Reduces intestinal lesions due to coccidiosis1,2 and necrotic enteritis3
  • Helps coccidiosis-vaccinated poultry maintain performance1,2,3

Phytogenic Feed Additives – Not All Are Created Equal

Phytogenics are natural, bioactive molecules from plants such as tannins, essential oils, saponins or flavonoids. Conventional phytogenic feed additives (PFAs) often contain ingredients sourced from dried plant materials or extracted plant essential oils which, because of natural variation among plants, can result in variable levels of active molecules in the PFA. This variation may impact the efficacy and consistency of the PFA under field conditions.4

VANNIX C4 differs from conventional PFAs because it not only contains both phytogenic and probiotic ingredients but also because the ingredients and active molecule levels are standardized during manufacturing of the final product. This process helps to ensure that VANNIX C4 will provide consistent responses for your operation.

VANNIX C4 – Four Levels of Protection for Gut Health

VANNIX C4 combines the functional activities of natural plant extracts, immune supporting beta glucans and active microbial ingredients to provide producers with a cost-effective solution to support poultry intestinal integrity and overall performance. Because of its unique formulation, VANNIX C4 offers four levels of protection to support intestinal health of poultry.

TANNIC ACID EXTRACT (TAE) Hydrolysable tannins from gallnuts, like tannic acid, provide specific activity versus other tannins. Tannic acid is processed to improve the bioactivity towards poultry pathogens. Tannic acid extract has been shown to consistently support intestinal barrier integrity.

B. SUBTILIS, PB6
Patented, spore-forming strain was isolated from chickens that had survived a high exposure to Clostridium perfringens in the environment. B. subtilis, PB6 secretes biocidal proteins that disrupt the membrane of pathogenic bacteria, like C. perfringens, killing it without harming beneficial gut microflora. PB6 can also reduce the prevalence of pathogenic bacteria to maintain a healthy and balanced microbiota.

BETA GLUCANS
Highly bioavailable 1,3-beta glucans are the most effective beta-glucans for protective immunity. Beta-glucans help prime
the immune system to respond to pathogen challenges.

PHYTOGENIC
MOLECULES
Oregano essential oil from the patented Kemin high-carvacrol oregano line provides consistent antimicrobial and
antioxidant activities. Saponins from yucca
extract support nutrient absorption and provide antimicrobial activities.

The Effects of Tannins in Monogastric Animals with Special Reference to Alternative Feed Ingredients

饲用单宁酸Abstract: Over recent years, the monogastric animal industry has witnessed an increase in feed prices due to several factors, and this trend is likely to continue. The hike in feed prices is mostly due to extreme competition over commonly used conventional ingredients. For this trend to be subdued, alternative ingredients of both plant and animal origin need to be sourced. These types of ingredients are investigated with the aim of substituting all or some of the conventional compounds. However, alternative ingredients often have a double-edged sword effect, in that they can supply animals with the necessary nutrients although they contain antinutritional factors such as tannins. Tannins are complex secondary metabolites commonly present in the plant kingdom, known to bind with protein and make it unavailable; however, recently they have been proven to have the potential to replace conventional ingredients, in addition to their health benefits, particularly the control of zoonotic pathogens such as Salmonella. Thus, the purpose of this review is to (1) classify the types of tannins present in alternative feed ingredients, and (2) outline the effects and benefits of tannins in monogastric animals. Several processing methods have been reported to reduce tannins in diets for monogastric animals; furthermore, these need to be cost-effective. It can thus be concluded that the level of inclusion of tannins in diets will depend on the type of ingredient and the animal species.

Tannins and Their Complex Interaction with Different Organic Nitrogen Compounds and Enzymes: Old Paradigms versus Recent Advances

Interactions between tannins and proteins have been studied for more than 50 years, because of their unique characteristics and potential use in food industry and pharmacology. However, with the new insights regarding regulation of enzymes by tannin concentration and the potential interaction with other non‐protein N compounds, future studies are needed. Special attention should be paid to the use of well‐purified and characterized tannins, because the chemistry of polyphenols and the presence of other compounds in plant extracts may significantly affect tannin interactions with N compounds. Follow‐up studies should aim to extrapolate these results to more complex, heterogenic, realistic systems. In conclusion, studies investigating the interactions between tannins and proteins, but also other organic compounds, are likely to attract significant attention due to the general interest in polyphenols with regard to human health and disease treatment, but also their role in the beverage and food industry.
