Performance and Gut Health of Coccidiosis Vaccinated Broilers with Tannic Acid Extract and Bacillus coagulans

The aim of the present study tested the effect of tannic acid extract (TAE) alone or in combination with a direct-fed microbial, Bacillus coagulans (TAE+BC), on performance and gut health of coccidiosis vaccinated broilers. Broilers were either unchallenged or challenged with a late Eimeria infection. The study looked at performance and gut health during two time periods: vaccination only (0-49 days) and late cocci challenge (vaccination + cocci challenge; 28-35 days). For the late cocci challenge, a subset of vaccinated broilers were split into two groups: Treatment In (treatments kept in feed) and Treatment Out (treatments removed from feed), in order to determine if TAE and TAE+BC would have an impact on immunity development to Eimeria following vaccination. Performance and gut health measurements were taken at 35 days. TAE+BC had numerically lower average oocysts shedding than TAE, ionophore and chemical in both the Treatment In and Treatment Out groups. Removal of TAE+BC and TAE from feed did not negatively impact performance of vaccinated broilers challenged with Eimeria, whereas removal of the chemical resulted in decreased weight gain and numerically similar FCR to control. The results of the study indicate that TAE+BC not only positively impacted performance during late cocci challenge, but did not negatively impact development of immunity to Eimeria following vaccination.

Broiler feeding

The aim of this research was to study the effect of addition of natural extract dietary tannins (饲料级单宁酸) in commercial feed on the growth of broilers. Two hundred and four broiler chicks (Cobb 508) 14 d old male, were randomly assigned to 12 floor pens and fed commercial diet supplemented with 0% (CE0), 0.15% (CE15), 0.20% (CE20) and 0.25% (CE25) of ENC. The addition of feed grade tannins showed a beneficial effect on weight increases daily feed intake (DFI) and average daily gain (ADG) from 14 to 35 days of age. In the second half of trial the effects were less evident and concluding with a detrimental effect in CE25 group. Feed conversion rate (FCR) appears to be statistically different in the second and fifth weeks of feeding. The inclusion of ENC at 0.20%, (CE20) had significant influences on final weight, DFI and ADG and a favourable influence on FCR in comparison with the other three groups. In conclusion, dietary tannins (饲料级单宁酸) has been shown to be beneficial at concentrations between 0.15% and 0.20%.

Silvafeed Bypro

A natural blend of sensory flavoring additives, rich in tannins which is specifically developed for cattle nutrition. Tannins are poly phenolic compounds, also called as protein protectants and are added in animal feed to save feed proteins from ruminal degradation. Tannins attach with the proteins, this (tannin + protein) bonding is strong and pH dependent. Dietary tannins exert beneficial effects on the health, growth & production of Ruminants by improving salivation, increasing feed intake Saving protein from ruminal degradation, balancing microflora ecosystem, enhancing intestinal Amino Acid availability, and reducing bloat & diarrhea incidents.

Enteric disorders and boost zootechnical performances

Efficient natural alternatives to antibiotics and high level of zinc oxide are urgently needed for the control of post-weaning diarrhoea in piglets. Silvafeed® Nutri P (dietary tannins饲料级单宁酸) is a blend of plant extracts rich in bioactive polyphenols, which have been extensively studied for their biological properties (e.g. antispasmodic, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory) and potential health benefits. Recently, the effectiveness of Silvafeed® plant extracts (dietary tannins饲料级单宁酸) in reducing the severity of post-weaning diarrhoea has been well described in piglets either infected (Experimental ETEC F4 model) or non-infected (Girard et al, 2018). A recent trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of Silvafeed® Nutri P (dietary tannins饲料级单宁酸) on zootechnical performances and faecal scores (consistency and colour) in weaned piglets.

Silvafeed® Nutri P

Silvafeed® Nutri P (dietary tannins饲用单宁酸) is a feed additive composed of natural polyphenols (mainly hydrolysable tannins), which have been extracted and purified from various botanical sources. Its antispasmodic effect has been deeply analysed by an ex vivo assessment carried out by Budriesi et al., in 2010. The aim of the study was to provide an evidence of Silvafeed® Nutri P (dietary tannins饲用单宁酸) antispasmodic activity, which triggers a reduction in intestinal motility and, therefore, delays gastrointestinal transit, making this extract a helpful tool to prevent or treat diarrheal diseases.
